Alejandro Pedrido, a Cuban contemporary artist, will be showcasing his art work this coming November at ArtLabbé Gallery in Coral Gables, Florida. Make sure to join us the 1st of November for our gallery night where we will have music, wine, and art to enjoy. The whole month of November will be a display and appreciation of Cuban contemporary art and Alejandro Pedrido, Miamis new and upcomig artist.

Dreams that remain in memory are a series of art works that Pedrido

began creating towards the end of 2016 in Santiago, Chile. The artist

prepared his body and mind to explore through visual art the mystery

and language that are present in dreams, history, existence, and life.

With his first work in this series, Los Musicos, Pedrido alluded to a

consecutive dream that was reflected in his memory. The artist carried

this with him over the years and with constant work discovered this

wonderful area left to us by the teacher, Oliver Messiaen,

unconsciously connecting with said story. The quartet has given

Pedrido the necessary tools to create his last two works,

The Dance of Fury and Liturgy of Crystal, as well as a series of sketches. With this exhibition, the artist invites us to reflect on the story and what we are willing to give up for our dreams. “I propose with this piece that the dreams that remain in memory are not dreams but reality.”

Olivier Messiaen was a French composer who during world war II served as a hospital nurse for the French. He was later captured by the Germans and taken prisoner to war camp Stalag VIII-A. His musical scores served as comfort during the years spent there. The quartet was made up of Oliver Messiaen as composer and pianist, Ettiene Pasquier on the cello, Henry Akoka on clarinet, and Jean Lou Boulaire playing violin. Messiaen composed for the musicians available and for the dreary situation at hand. Guards who were fond of music allowed for the composition and even provided materials and instruments. There was also an opening night, where guards and prisoners transported to another universe for a brief moment. He broke from the steady beat and rhythm to create something potent, to explore an almost timeless place. The musicians and audience were equally shocked by the music played, inspired by Messiaen's faith in God and specifically referencing The Book of Revelation. Dreams and bird songs were among some of the inspirations for Messiaen. His music was considered very modern and innovative and continues to remind us of the resilience and power art has in society.

All references are done with the utmost respect for those who composed this music, for those who were lost, and for those who lived through the horrid atrocities of war. This artwork must remind us of what should never more occur.
